BAN AND ERRATA UPDATE 05/06/2025
UVS Games Game Design Team
We have 2 changes to the UniVersus Ban and Errata list this month. In the early parts of the Regional season we've enjoyed the innovation of our players as the meta has developed. The results have shown us a few tried and true contenders and some new and interesting challengers. With that in mind, we feel there is room to continue shaping the meta into a healthy and fun experience for players at all levels of play.

Devil Jin
Vertical Maneuvering Equipment

VME was originally designed to be an impactful and flavorful tool that could fit into any deck. As the signature piece of equipment from Attack on Titan, we wanted it to be exciting for players. In pursuit of those goals, we pushed this one a little too far on the power scale.
Within the scope of a deck not focused on momentum gain, VME feels like an excellent way to utilize momentum gained through gameplay. When it's in a deck capable of even relatively small amounts of momentum gain, it becomes a defensive engine that needs very little support. As our players refined the decks utilizing VME, it became clear that stacking strong defensive abilities alongside VME created gameplay walls that are just unapproachable for many deck archetypes in our game. This limits the amount of viable competitive decks. We want to open that space back up. In order to do that the time has come for VME to go.
Devil Jin

OLD:
Enhance Add 1 attack from your discard pile to your card pool: Your attack gets +1 damage for each attack in your card pool. You may change this attack's zone to the zone of the added attack.
NEW:
Enhance [Your turn] Add 1 attack from your discard pile to your card pool: Your attack gets +1 damage for each attack in your card pool. You may change this attack's zone to the zone of the added attack.
Since the release of Critical Role Heroes of Exandria the biggest splash into the competitive scene has been Devil Jin. In particular Devil Jin has benefited significantly from Aerial Goblin Bolt. A new defensive and offensive tool that sacrifices some impact as an attack in exchange for a powerful negation ability. We want to keep the feel of Devil Jin’s high-end and flexible offense. This to us is the key function of the character. The problem is the way this character leverages Goblin Bolt on defense is both incredibly powerful, and incredibly frustrating for most decks to play against. Generally you’ll need to play through multiple Goblin Bolt’s while attacking into Jin and you’ll need to get through them every turn you are on the offense. There are also future design concerns about Devil Jin’s ability to turn any sort of defensive tool in a similar shape as Goblin Bolt into a problem. This errata leaves Jin with all of his incredible offensive power, but removes the current and potential future problematic interactions.
These Bans and Erratas go into effect on 05/12/2025
As always we are keeping a close eye on any decks overperforming in our key categories of negative play experience, competitive success, and representation for banned and errata action. We are committed to trying to maintain a diverse and enjoyable meta for our players, and will continue to take the necessary actions to meet those goals.
