Greetings Universus players! Today the UVS Game Design team is happy to bring you some of our favorite new cards and combos available now with the release of Attack on Titan: Apocalypse!

One of my favorite new decks is something I like to call Zeke’s birthday party. The first person at the party is the guest of honor Zeke Yeager, Warchief. Zeke will help us pass the high difficulty attacks we need to set things up in the early part of the game, and then once he transforms, he will help us pass our game ending combo.

The second person in the door for the party is Grovekeeper’s Authority.

We plan on setting up a huge build with Grovekeeper's, so we are including at least 1-2 copies of every party backup (and a few extra Shaun Gilmores). We are also playing a few copies of quick momentum cards like Unsettling Eating Habits to help pay the momentum cost on Grovekeeper's. I recommend bringing a few other non-party backups to help Zeke reach his transformation condition. I personally brought a few Yeagerist Followers because of the low difficulty and the help on passing checks, extra mill and defense.

The last guest at the party is our win condition none other than Falling Titans. Using our freshly assembled army of backups, we are going to transform and loop as many copies of Falling Titans as we can. We need to support and protect our combo, so I like to include a few copies of Marley’s Warriors and Incredible Display. Warriors helps us pass all those 6 difficulty attacks(sometimes even on a 7 if you played the Grovekeeper's in the same turn) and Incredible Display will help defend your combo from disruption from your rival.
I love a good combo deck, and this one is one of my favorites in the game right now. There is nothing like building 5 or 6 backups in a single Grovekeepers and going right into a Falling Titan’s loop. You can consider cards like Hunter’s Ally to try and help you get setup(and also a great target for Jarett) and/or things like Political Strife to represent another dangerous threat your rival cannot ignore. This deck has some clear goals, but also multiple different branching paths in deckbuilding!

The War Hammer Titan is one of my favorite characters to come out of the new set. They support a tool box play style and I have always been someone who loves to have options available. The versatility of its ability to pick up attacks based on what you currently need in the situation to push an offense, or picking up a selective block zone for defense for just 3 health is huge. There are multiple ways to play this character, with some strategies utilizing bad checks to preserve War Hammer’s health for as long as possible before going in for the kill. The inverse is to play a consistent 3 check line up which may make building easier, but comes with more inherent risk as our loss of life can be as much as triple when picking up our attacks.

The loss of life doesn’t just stop with War Hammer Titan though, as one of the premier attacks we want to pick up is Tetra-Terror Onslaught. This attack lets us cut even more of our life down for a chance to pick up even more attacks from our discard pile. This lets us enhance for even more damage with War Hammer as long as we get below our break points, like 25/20/15 health. Most notably the attack we want to pick up with our Tetra-Terror is Readied Shot. This overloads our opponent on high blocks, and combos with another attack in our deck. The Final Slash is a new attack from Attack on Titan Apocalypse. Not only does it have a solid +0 mid block with breaker 1, but it most importantly is a 1 difficulty attack. This lets us pick up The Final Slash with Readied Shot, and gives us a finisher that is easy to pass at the end of a string. Basically picking up Tetra Terror onslaught can turn our character enhance from picking up 1 attack, to picking up to 4 attacks as long as you have a Readied Shot and The Final Slash in your discard pile. Your health total is the ultimate resource in this War Hammer deck, and if you decide to take them up I would love to see your lists and how you build the character.

Here are a few of my favorite combos from AOT Apocalypse!

Bleak Commentary + Beta Shift or Botan’s Coaching:
Ideally in a character like Armin Arlert, Power of the Colossus, as long as you can get copies of Bleak Commentary facedown in you stage, 2 -4 copies of this card in your stage when paired with an enhance of Beta Shift or Botan’s Coaching allows you to discard cards from your rival’s hand! One of the more powerful interactions with Outwit from this set is sure to make some appearances in some competitive decks!

Hiei, Dragon Within + Levi’s Retribution:
Some new support for characters that leverage their life as a resource on the Fire symbol! Hiei was already good at leveraging his health and aiming for a 10 health or lower threshold for his own cards like Unmatched Quickness. Now, Hiei has a high damage Stun: 2 attack that he can use as well and is already very good at making his opponent think twice on how to block it because of Hiei’s very unique Response ability!

Hange Zoe + The Nine Titans from throughout the Ages:
Hange Zoe from the first Attack on Titan set finally has a VERY strong 4 difficulty Backup to start the game with! This combo seems like a no brainer, but the kicker here is being able to use these Backups over and over again every turn to have either a large offensive plan with stats on Titan attack, or using them for their damage reduction. Using cards like Healing Spell are sure to come in handy for some upcoming Hange Zoe decks to keep your Backups stamina high since your rival can’t attack into your 4 difficulty Backups!
