OCE and EU Regionals Deck Highlights!
Looking Back: November B&E
It’s been a busy few weeks in the world of UniVersus! UK and OCE Regionals, a B&E update, and the introduction of our newest expansion, Attack on Titan: Origins of Power. Today we’re taking a look at some of our favorite innovators from the recent Regionals events from around the world to discuss what we loved about their decks. Who knows; perhaps you’ll be sitting across from one of them at a UniVersus tournament soon!

We had the pleasure of watching this deck play out on stream. Most of the time, King Ghidorah wants to build quite a few copies of key foundations like Relentless Challenger and Unmatched Quickness. Typically games with this character last longer than other games, and was having some success even before Attack on Titans: Battle for Humanity launched. We’re excited to see what new tools from the upcoming set King Ghidorah will add to its ‘toolbox’ style of play. Torin deftly put this style of play on display at OCE Regionals, and we reckon it’s almost certain to be sticking around as a strategy in the new Standard.

Whether you’re playing the long game building many Foundations to lead into a string of Attacks, or an aggressive style using speed enhancers to bust through, Rodan is a premier 7-hander. Rodan also benefits from recent updates to the B&E, dodging impacts from the changes and directly benefiting from the Smiling Titan errata, who was previously holding the winged terror in check. Ewen Kennedy’s Void symbol take on the deck is one our favorite examples of the more controlling strategy, but more aggressive All symbol strategies are likely to be a big part of the metagame now as well.

Kai McConville was tearing up the OCE Regional with Ymir, and gains more tools with the release of Origins of Power thanks to some new life gain tools that become available. Already appealing as a more aggressive 7 hand size character, Ymir gets to build foundations quite rapidly that makes players feel a little safe in the early game state. With Smiling Titan being hit, we expect characters like Ymir have more room to thrive, bolstered by cards like Jaw Titan Attacks!

Innovative or “rogue” decklists are some of the best parts of watching live events. Jonathan Yeates and Benjamin Motin piloted just such a list to 2nd and 5th place respectively at EU Regionals. Their character? Godzilla, King of the Monsters, but both chose very different approaches to winning with the terrible lizard. Each relied on City Rampage to help make their checks for high difficulty attacks. Battle for Humanity’s Determined Advance and Swarmed by Titans were also utilized for momentum generation and improving checks. These lists set out to make an impact, and we believe they did just that. It reminded us that despite these new powerful tools that really started to dominate the meta, Godzilla was still lying in wait to take advantage. As more and more 5 difficulty moves are released, these lists will only gain more options to choose from and more iteration to be done on these lists. We can’t wait to see what revisions are done now with the release of Origins of Power.
Moving Forward
The past three Regionals were incredibly exciting to watch with many new strategies and innovative decklists. Certain characters that we thought were going to make top cut appearances were nowhere to be seen, and others lost to match ups that on different days could have had different results. With Nationals season on the horizon the world has another opportunity for players to test their decks to the limit again! We can’t wait to see what interesting concepts players put together in the world of new Standard.
