My Hero Academia: Final Battle Challenger Series: Dev Diary .III – Finishing Look
Welcome back heroes and villains!
The end of the month is here and that means it’s time to take a look at the rest of the cards from the Final Battle decks. There’s a lot for us to go through so let’s get started right away.
The first card we’ll look at is Overdrive Uppercut. This attack offers two modes for you to engage with; you can either play the attack twice through the Echo ability or use it to land one massive bit of damage when you enhance with the Powerful keyword.

The Armored Car Hercules asset card represents All Might’s new super technology battle suit car. From this vehicle he can launch new pieces of Technology, new modules for his armor, and keep engaging in battle. Its abilities represent that by allowing you to get more armor into your hand and to replace damaged portions of his armor with new modules using the response.

Battle Suit HUD. This three difficulty Foundation mimics the operating system of all the battle armor to evaluate data and manage the battle. Being able to select attacks to put on bottom if you have no way of using them or leaving them on top if you have a way to integrate it into your current armor configuration, i.e. if you can draw it.

The next card to look at is All Might’s Armored Punch. This Armor, Punch, Tech, and Vestige attack ticks a lot of boxes on keywords for both hero characters to utilize the main theme with this card we were aiming for, since All Might exhibits a variety of different armor modules based on the quirks of his students. Please note that while this may not be one of the most conventionally powerful cards it gets quite interesting in a Singleton deck providing a large damage output.

Heroic Conviction is a new action card for the Heroes. It doesn’t add to progressive difficulty meaning it’s excellent inclusion on attack turns. Also the Good symbol response helps protect your offense. Never fear because the former number one hero will finish this fight!

For the final card of the heroes deck let’s look at Hercules: Red Riot. This is a fairly simple Foundation that doesn’t do much with exception of its ability to mimic his manly students’ defensive-minded fighting style. This card cannot be destroyed by rival effects and offers a strong block modifier to utilize with Armored Car Hercules. And do note that this does contain the Good Attuned symbol while maintaining other non-attune symbols letting this card appear to help protect the stage of many Good symbol characters.

The next card we will look at is Massive Optimal Punch. While All For One has some big hitting cards, We wanted to give Shigaraki a meaty attack that could have some control abilities while also providing good offense. The Breaker keyword helps both characters’ gameplay here. Along with being able to destroy an asset, putting counterplay against that pesky car All Might brings to the final battle.

Rewind Engaged shows All For One’s usage of Eri’s quirk. This card allows him to commit it on offense and then undo that commitment on defense if he’s put himself in enough danger and taken a significant amount of damage.

Panicked Outburst is a speed reducing Foundation that also offers a good breaker for Shigaraki to use and potentially draw some extra cards on defense.

Stockpiled Quirks let’s the villains get extra usage out of their cards in their momentum. Since most of their attacks have keyword abilities, this lets them continue the strategy of maintaining pressure. They want to be constantly forcing the heroes into the defensive posture utilizing their rivals’ momentum for any number of abilities and then getting the foundation back into their hand to rebuild and force the rival to spend again.

The final card will look at is Concealing Power. This action doesn’t do anything new but it does provide the great surprise of preventing your rival from bringing in new powers in the form of a card being built in the middle of their active turn. Conversely since both of these villains are able to play cards from locations other than their hand, the block response on concealing power really helps you in either taxing their resources or ending their aggression. This action is really good for halting your rival in their tracks and is certainly a hand trap I’m looking forward to using.

With that, this is the last of the cards for me to show off from the Final Battle decks and I hope that you enjoyed this insight into the thought process behind some of these designs. Be sure to join the Final Battle when this Challenger Series comes to your local game stores on June 12th. Find you nearest store here and choose your side in the fight!
