We’re just one month out from the hottest ticket in the gaming universe: the Attack on Titan: Origins of Power Prerelease which begin Friday, November 1st. Prerelease is the most exciting time of the year as we wait on bated breath to see all the latest card previews and join the UniVersus community to debut the latest set being added to our world. The Origins of Power Prerelease marks the first time you’ll be able to get your hands on actual cards in order to play. Here’s what to expect.

What is a Prerelease?

Prerelease week is awesome because it’s your chance to get your hands on brand new UniVersus cards before they’re fully available for sale. Be the first people on the planet to experience Attack on Titan: Origins of Power! To participate, you’ll need to sign up for a Prerelease event at your Local Game Store. You can always try to sign up the day of the event, but we recommend registering in advance to make sure you have a seat in case the event sells out. You can find your local Prerelease here.

At the Prerelease you’ll receive a Prerelease kit to build your deck. What’s in a Prerelease kit? Great question!

What’s in a Prerelease Kit?

Your Prerelease kit contains everything you’ll need to participate in your Prerelease event. Inside you’ll find:

• Six booster packs of Attack on Titan: Origins of Power

• One exclusive “A Father’s Sin” promo card

Remember: booster packs in your Prerelease kit are exactly the same as the booster packs you can buy from a store. That means they include all the awesome cards, alternate arts, foils, and chromes you’d find anywhere else!

After everyone receives their Prerelease kit you’ll open them to build your deck. How does deckbuilding work for Sealed Deck?

Playing Sealed Deck

Playing the Sealed Deck format at your Prerelease is one of the best ways to play UniVersus: everyone has access to the same pool of cards, and no one has any experience playing those cards before. We’re all on equal footing! After opening your six booster packs you’ll need to build a 40-card deck. We recommend a mix of about 1/3rd attacks, 2/3rd foundations with a smattering of other card types added as they fit your strategy. There are a few differences you should know about when playing Sealed Deck:

• Your deck size is 40 cards instead of 60.

• If a player needs to “cycle” their deck, they cycle 5 cards instead of 10.

• There are no symbol restrictions; you can play any card with any character in Sealed Deck events.

One you’ve built your deck you’ll be paired against other players and battle for fun and prizes. Prereleases are casual events where the focus is on “fun,” though  many events offer additional prizes based on your record. Once you’ve completed one Prerelease event, you can sign up for more!

Additional Perks

In addition to getting to play Origins of Power for the first time, some Prereleases have added perks. You may be able to purchase booster displays on a limited basis if your store is part of our “early sales” program. When stores order Prerelease kits early enough, they get the chance to buy cases of boosters they can sell beginning Prerelease weekend, one full week before they’re available to the public!

Some locations may also feature guests, like our own UVS Games staff. If your event has a special VIP, they’ll likely be available to play some “gunslinging” games and may even have bonus prizes to hand out. Grab a chance to chat with them about your favorite TCG, or ask questions about what it’s like working for UVS Games.
