Godzilla Challenger Series Overview
Kaiju fans all around, get ready to rejoice. The King of Monsters and its enemies and allies alike are coming to UniVersus in Godzilla Challenger Series. Arriving as two different sixty card preconstructed decks, both Godzilla Challenger Series products will be ready to play right out of the box, and give you three different characters to play as.
Godzilla Challenger Series: Godzilla + Mothra
Our first deck will be led by the King of the Monsters joined by its ally and protector of humanity, Mothra. Godzilla and Mothra both offer huge amounts of destructive and defensive power, interacting more powerfully with cards depending on how high their difficulty level is. It’s only fitting that giant monsters want to play with giant cards!
Godzilla stays true to its destructive nature, as the built-in board wipe lets you destroy every single resource in play and lay waste to everything in your path. Mothra on the other hand, provides a more defensive edge as, with enough momentum, it can rise again and again to keep attacking and protecting.
Fans of our Challenger Series will be used to them including two feature characters, but Godzilla Challenger Series is so massive that we had to bring a third bonus character to join in on the fight. Look forward to also playing as Mechagodzilla, Kiryu inside this deck. Leverage every card in your hand for extra EX and Powerful statistics while refueling your hand every time you play a high difficulty card. This monster is like a well oiled machine!
Now with our giant monsters wanting to play so many huge attacks, we’re gonna need two things. Some help playing our massive moves, and some seriously epic massive moves to play! A card like City Rampage is going to reward us for going tall with our attacks, as well as making them significantly easier to play with all those check pluses! And when it comes to swinging tall, Heat Ray is one of the strongest six difficulty moves around. Massive numbers, taking down your rival’s key resources, and a giant damage pump that lends itself to a high difficulty attack lineup all make this a faithful representation of one of Godzilla’s most famous moves.
Speaking of famous moves, the unique powers of Godzilla and Mothra are both on full display throughout this deck. Gathering Energy lets you take hit after hit and store cards every time, leveraging Godzilla’s huge 34 health as a stockpile that you can access when the time is finally right. Electric Moth on the other hand gives you access to a monstrous amount of card draw, as well as the ability to charge up and ready any Giant character back up. Sync this up with Mothra for lots of free speed! Two unique surges of power come from both Godzilla and Mothra in these key cards.
Continuing with our theme of making our massive cards much easier to pay for, History’s Greatest Monster rewards you for that playstyle tenfold. Readying itself once each time you play a high difficulty card means you’ll have resources to commit for days. And when it comes to defense, The Shobijin’s Message lets you stack Breaker onto any block, making your rival’s cards that much harder to play. When you’re in a pinch, Mothra’s pair of priestesses have your back!
Godzilla Challenger Series: King Ghidorah + Rodan
But maybe you’re more a fan of some of the more wicked monsters in the Godzilla lineup? Fret not, we’ve got you covered. King Ghidorah menacingly leads our second Godzilla Challenger Series, joined by the terror of the skies, Rodan. Between sky and space, both of these monsters fight out of reach, and they’ll play UniVersus in the same way. Both interacting with the discard and removed from game pile, King Ghidorah uses them as a void of space it can pull any card from, while Rodan tears it apart to manipulate all speed to supersonic levels.
King Ghidorah also proves to be an extremely difficult monster to take down. A mere 10 health may seem unassuming, but you’ll have to take it down three times as the King Ghidorah counters restore it back up. The Emperor of the Cosmos doesn’t fall until all three heads are taken out! Rodan also proves a tricky monster to fight, getting a birds eye view of cards on the top of the deck and changing them anyway it sees fit. The more it destroys, the more cards it gets to manipulate, eventually being able to always stay several steps ahead of its rivals trapped on the ground.
Now Godzilla and Mothra aren’t the only ones bringing a bonus character along. Inside this deck, you’ll find a Mechagodzilla variant again, this time in the form of the Bionic Menace! This Mechagodzilla joins the fight with a mission to burn away the cards in its deck as fuel in order to increase the speed and damage outputs of attacks significantly! And just when you think it's done, hitting it allows it to take one last shot at your most precious resource.
King Ghidorah and Rodan share a common theme of removing their cards away nonstop, these destructive monsters will tear apart anything in their way to get what they want. Just like with Godzilla and Mothra’s shared theme, we’re going to see some serious payoffs for this ruinous playstyle. Combined Firepower is the ultimate conjoined might of King Ghidorah, an action card that can be played right from your discard pile and increase damage after you remove cards. Once you have all of these in your discard pile, you can bring them out across your series of attacks, or bring them all out on one big attack for a ton of Combined Firepower! A great target for that is something like Tri Gravity Beam. Playing this as your third attack is going to let you bring the destruction to your rival’s hand as well, ripping out their last precious block and sealing their fate with a trifecta of attacks.
But if that wasn’t enough destructive power, this deck can rip your rival’s hand apart. Golden Death is such a terrifying card, it can even remove your rival’s hand on their own turn! Or you can even remove Golden Death itself to dig into three cards from your deck (one for each head!) and try to pick up a card you need. Every single game zone is always in King Ghidorah’s grasp. Rodan finally gets to spread its wings in Death From Above, giving you more options for strategically removing your own cards for big benefits. If you get to scout the top four cards of your deck as Rodan, you can even manipulate the cards you draw with Death From Above!
To circle back on destroying our own cards to get what we want, these two foundations embody the themes of both King Ghidorah and Rodan fully. Monster Zero can remove itself to rip another card out of our rival’s hand, and make your attack even more threatening in the process. Supersonic Flight can turn any attack into a very threatening high zone attack for a surprise aerial assault. Destroying it will put it right on top of your discard pile, which, alongside its response and huge 4+ block modifier, make it the best target for Rodan’s abilities!
Now on top of having multiple different playable characters for their decks, Challenger Series are also known for the unique Collector’s Booster Pack waiting inside them. The signature of the product, this pack contains six cards from Godzilla Challenger Series in either parallel foil or alternate art versions.
Get ready to see every card sporting a parallel foil treatment, or from a completely new angle in a gorgeous alternate art. Between complete visual shakeups and art style shifts, these alt arts are a must-have for any avid Godzilla fan. The character alt arts are the most standout of the bunch, featuring exclusive artwork and a textured chemical reaction treatment. Look forward to seeing more of these soon!
