My Hero Academia: Final Battle Challenger Series: Dev Diary .I – Characters
Hello fighters!
My name is Tim Frie, UVS Games Rules Manager, and design lead for the upcoming My Hero Academia: Final Battle Challenger Series. While there’s so much awesome that happens in these last 2 seasons, with challenger decks there’s only so much room for moments and characters to be included and explored. These decks focus on the mirrored fights between All Might and All for One, as well as Izuku Midoriya vs Tomura Shigaraki.
These decks were designed with the mindset of having been without significant representation of the EVIL and GOOD symbols in decks or products for quite a while.
The first deck features All Might and Deku as the heroes and focuses on the idea of heroism. The deck is built on the GOOD symbol. Some of the themes found in the deck are Armor and Vestige traits. There is some crossover, as the idea of All Might’s armor being vestiges of the students he’s mentored and cultivated into their own heroes overlaps with Deku’s usage of the Vestiges of the One For All Quirk he wields.

All Might is pretty straightforward, enhancing the stats of his attacks, with better output for heroic (GOOD symbol) attacks. As always, All Might finds ways to dig deep and find more fight to stay in a battle, drawing cards to represent this. As his armor succumbs to damage, he shrugs it off to replace it with new modules coordinated by his suit’s battle AI. He follows that by sacrificing tools in the stage to replenish his hand.

Midoriya, now fully in control of the vast skill set passed down by his Quirk, has access to all Vestige foundations, regardless of symbol. This should provide a large number of possibilities when used creatively. In addition, his skill in battle, speed, and combat awareness are represented by his ability to modify speed and his defensive build of a foundation.
Shifting gears, let’s talk about the bad guys for a moment. The villains All For One, and his apprentice Tomura Shigaraki, have given themselves over fully to being the baddest bros that were bad. This deck is all about setting your evil plan up and then executing it at the right time. Both are able to throw away their resources, but not forgetting about them, and capitalizing on their use later. This EVIL deck furthers some of the recent game plans that the symbol has been focusing on.

All For One has a large health pool, being the big bad of the MHA world. You can think he’s cornered, but he always finds a way to make use of the Quirks he’s stockpiled. The Demon Lord of villains is an expert at adjusting his plan and never letting himself be cornered for too long. It’s been a while, but All For One enjoys putting tools into his momentum and using those stockpiled tools later.

Tomura Shigaraki is finally ready to go all out. The leader of the League of Villains and the Metahuman Liberation Army prefers a hands-on style of management. Even with the heroes cutting off access to his toolbox of quirks, his body has become infinitely adaptable from the process of becoming the host for his master. Casting aside cards to the removed pile allows them to be played later in the same turn, while also opening the possibility of drawing new or additional cards.
I’m so excited for you all to get these characters in your hands and really let them loose. But I want to give one more preview today. We always like to have a little fun with our projects, and thought it would be neat to link the decks in some way for this return to the world of pro-heroes and villains. Welcome back this reprint of the classic foundation “Good & Evil”. Each deck will include 2 copies of this foundation in their deck. While each deck comes with a distinct art, both represent the struggle between good and evil.
