BAN AND ERRATA UPDATE 02/03/2026
There are two updates to our Standard format Ban and Errata list this month. Since our previous banlists, we have been watching the meta for some specific indicators. One of the main things we’ve been looking at is whether the space near the top of the meta got more diverse rather than less. While some characters shifted around, things didn’t quite unlock in the way we were hoping. This month, we are going to take further action to open up the meta for both our upcoming World Championship and the release of Godzilla: Reign of Kaiju.
The following cards are banned from the Standard Format starting on 02/09/26:
- Unyielding Destruction
- Equipment Heist
Unyielding Destruction—Banned

Unyielding Destruction has been one of the most difficult cards to evaluate in the history of the game. Its impact in competitive play can be hard to see at times because the decks that don’t match up well against it simply don’t get played. This leads to top cuts where decks that feature Unyielding Destruction have fairly normal-looking results, but those results don’t measure the card’s true impact.
The reality of Unyielding Destruction is that it’s a shape of card we’d like to have in the game: an accessible tool meant to help combat decks that are attempting to play very passively and build up into a massive checkmate. It was fairly effective in that role, but the problem was that many other kinds of decks were caught in the crossfire. The efficiency and versatility of Unyielding Destruction made for a tool that pushed tons of control and midrange decks totally out of the meta. The card is just too effective at doing its job. We are hoping this action opens up some breathing room for decks that struggled with counterplay around Unyielding Destruction specifically.
Equipment Heist—Banned

Equipment Heist does an incredibly cool and interesting thing: allowing the player to cheat in resources in a unique and powerful way. There are a few problems with this card, but at the forefront is how difficult its gameplan is to interact with. There are only a few effective solutions, and there will be even fewer of those after the next rotation. We have unfortunately reached a point where, essentially, every deck that could be an Equipment Heist deck probably should be an Equipment Heist deck. The package is so powerful that characters with the Evil symbol are solely being evaluated by their ability to play and utilize Equipment Heist. The card performs at a high level, and is only countered by a fairly narrow set of realistic answers. We are hoping that, with fewer decks feeling like they must have a counterplay, the field will open up to a few more strategies.
